18 Ways To Use Rubrics In Education

18 Ways To Use Rubrics In Education | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it
Rubrics are an extremely useful classroom evaluation tool, though many teachers these days aren’t using them anymore, and don’t think they are necessary. The lovely graphic below from Mia MacMeekin takes a look at rubrics and why they should be used and what they can improve, along with a little guide for teachers on rubrics. …
Alfredo Corell's insight:

What is a rubric, and why should I use it?

Rubrics are scoring charts that display what is expected of a student on a particular assignment. The students can use the rubric when working on their assignment to ensure they know what is expected and can aim to meet those expectations, and teachers can use them when grading the assignment to ensure they are grading fairly and evaluating each assignment evently.

Content Curation Tools: 21 Criteria To Select And Evaluate Your Ideal One

Content Curation Tools: 21 Criteria To Select And Evaluate Your Ideal One | Create, Innovate & Evaluate in Higher Education | Scoop.it

Excerpt from article written and curated by Master Curator Robin Good and published on MasterNewMedia:
"Many such curation tools also appear to be very similar to one another, especially if evaluated exclusively from the type of news streams or visual collections that can be produced with them.

The most limiting factor of all, in making an effective selection when it comes to content curation tools is the lack of a proper evaluation framework, identifying the specific requirements and needs that need to be met by the content curation tool to be selected.

I am now publicly sharing this list of selection criteria, complemented by relevant questions to be asked when verifying the availability of these features to help both individuals, small organizations and companies evaluate better, and in a more systematic fashion, their ideal content curation toolset.

Here the features-list, organized into 21 groups. (*I have marked with HS those features relevant only to hosted content curation services.)
1. Import and Export functions
2. Content Organization
3. Clipping Abilities
4. Integrated Search
5. Content Monitoring - News Discovery
6. Filtering
7. Display formats
8. Arrangement
9. Navigation
10.Editing and Formatting
11.Ownership - HS
12.Collaboration - HS
13.Private Collections / Streams - HS
14.Intelligence - Memory
15.Crediting and Attribution
16.Preservation - Archiving
17.Distribution options
18.SEO - HS
19.Reach (for hosted curation platforms) - HS
20.Integrations - API - HS

Now you can earn game achievements in learning new things. Considering how popular this simple idea seems to be in gaming, it should be effective. Some form of feedback, especially if it is immediate and pleasing in some way, is usually helpful.

I don't know if this will replace paid credits, but it is a start toward a new paradiam

Paul Avila's curator insight, November 30, 2013 9:57 PM

This is an interesting idea to use in the classroom. It would motivate students to improve their skills to achieve these badges. I would suggest implementing these with some incentive system so that students pursue these badges instead of earning them passively as useless labels. These badges can be useful to track progress of historical thinking skills.
